I REMEMBER…
‘I remember Natalie, love was the music she sang to me’
This is the beginning of a Vince Hill song. My dad owned some old vinyl LPs he wanted to tape and gave them to me as I had a hi-fi and could record them for him. I had to listen to the flamboyant Liberace and dreamy Dean Martin, but Vince Hill was a revelation. He had a voice of silk and wonderful lyrics. One song was called ‘Mysterious people’ and was about how sad it was to grow older and what special qualities children possess. Later I listened to it with my Dad and we both cried poignant tears @ the lyrics. It was a wonderful surprise to enjoy music by an old 50s crooner I thought it would be a chore to listen to.
