A DAY IN HAMPSTEAD AND HACKNEY

Today we talked about a time,

Years away,

Saying we felt nostalgic,

Melancholy and sad.

But one day we will talk

About today misty-eyed

I waited for you while you swam,

In the lake sun hitting the water

And sparkling like jewels on the waves

I listened to my personal stereo,

It was as though you swam

In time to the music,

Your arms moved in synchronicity

To the tune,

Your lefts beat in time to the drums,

Someone saw you and said :

‘See that man he’s wearing gloves’

The child she spoke to was

Oblivious-unconscious-distracted

But I said ‘That’s my Dad’

And she said

‘All power to him, it must be cold’

‘Yes, it’s good for his heart’

I said proud, out loud.

We spent the rest of the day

In bars, meeting people too

Posh or too common

Wondering if there was a

Happy inbetween.

I guess we will spend our day s

Trying to find out.

And then when we do;

We may not even realise

That we have.
